Barack Obama in Premios Lo Nuestro, His Speech to the Latin Community

“Buenas Noches”, greeted Barack Obama in Spanish to the audience of Univision, giving start to the twenty-first delivery of Premio lo Nuestro to the Latin music.

In an unprecedented and historic act, Obama took the grand prize when the audience cheering at the end of his message during the event transmitted live from coast to coast from facilities BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Miami.

This is the first time a president of the United States addressed a largely Hispanic audience in a show of this type sent to the entire nation, and through a pre-video in the White House. The President took this opportunity to stress the cooperation of Hispanics in order to bring the country forward.

Obama’s brief speech struck even more precisely by doing so partly in Spanish and one of the main Hispanic television networks in the continent.

“But the moment that shocked the audience was the conclusion of a bilingual message that could be the first by a U.S. president in an elegant blend of Spanish and English which symbolically recognizes the linguistic diversity of the nation:” So enjoy the show, y para los nominados que se preguntan si esta sera su noche les digo, Si se puede!

Here the words of Barack Obama:

Buenas noches (Good evening). I want to thank the millions of you who voted for tonight’s winners, and I also want to thank all of you who voted in that other election back in November – even if it wasn’t for me. With the challenges we face right now, it is absolutely critical that you stay involved and make your voices heard. I want you to know that I will always be listening, and my Administration is working hard so that we can expand opportunity for all Americans and reach that better day. Now I know you tuned in for “Premio Lo Nuestro,” so let me get right to it. I don’t know who’ll get married tonight or who’ll get Video of the Year, but I know you’re in for some great performances that celebrate the rich diversity of Latin music, and that’s good news. So enjoy the show, y para los nominados que se preguntan si esta será su noche, les digo, ¡si se puede! (and for all those nominees wondering if tonight is their night, let me just say, ¡yes you can!)
